American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Nephrology unit position on night shift, requiring an active IL RN license and at least 1 year of gen-med experience.
Details- Acute care Nephrology unit within a hospital setting
- 21-bed unit with mostly private rooms and overhead lift equipment in all rooms
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on nights
- Patient population includes ESRD, AKI, hemo- and peritoneal dialysis patients, parathyroidectomies, ileal conduit creations, TURPs, prostatectomies, kidney stone cases, graft/fistula repairs, and kidney/pancreas transplant patients
- Gen-med overflow patients also cared for on this unit
- Bedside report and 1-2 hour patient rounding required
- EPIC EMR used
- 12-hour night shifts using a 3-12s schedule (7p-7:30a)
- Weekend requirement is every other weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) for night shift
- Holiday requirement is every other holiday, with some negotiation possible
- No call or standby shifts required
- May float to other gen-med units, and infrequently to ED or ICU as a helping hand or sitter
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor available 24/7
- PCTs available on all shifts to assist with vitals, baths, accu-checks, and foley catheter removal
- RNs are not required to titrate drips
- No ventilator management required; respiratory therapists available for treatments
- Telemetry monitored remotely by TeleTechs; RNs are not required to interpret strips
- Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Gen-med background required
- Nephrology or urology background preferred
- Must be able to pass a negative drug screen for all panels
- Provide direct patient care to nephrology and transplant patients, including pre- and post-operative monitoring
- Administer inhalers as needed for respiratory support
- Work collaboratively with PCTs, charge nurses, and house supervisors
- Unit-specific orientation includes 3 days with a preceptor
- Dress code allows any scrub color; no artificial or gel nails, chipped polish, visible tattoos, or piercings beyond simple earrings for females
- Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction for eligibility
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
