American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Nephrology unit requiring 1 year of gen-med experience and an active IL RN license.
Details- Acute care Nephrology unit within a hospital setting
- 21-bed unit, mostly private rooms with one semi-private room, all equipped with overhead lift equipment
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Common diagnoses include ESRD, AKI, hemo- and peritoneal dialysis, parathyroidectomies, ileal conduit creations, TURPs, prostatectomies, kidney stones, graft/fistula repairs, kidney and pancreas transplants, and transplant biopsies
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 3x12-hour day shifts (7a-7:30p) or night shifts (7p-7:30a)
- Self-scheduling available with block scheduling accommodations for travelers
- Every other weekend required for day shift (Sat/Sun); night shift weekend requirement is Fri/Sat/Sun and currently limited
- Every other holiday required, negotiable
- No call or standby requirements
- May float to other gen-med units, or infrequently to ED/ICU as a helping hand or sitter
- Active IL RN license required, or confirmation that the licensure application process has been initiated
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Gen-med background required
- Nephrology or urology background preferred
- BSN not required
- Must be able to produce a negative drug screen for all panels
- Bedside reporting and rounding on patients every 1-2 hours required
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor available 24/7; Charge Nurse typically does not take a patient assignment
- PCTs available at a 1:10-11 ratio on all shifts, assisting with vital signs, baths, accu-checks, and foley catheter removal
- Respiratory therapists available for treatments; RNs are not required to manage vents and only occasionally encounter trached or high-flow patients
- Telemetry monitored remotely by TeleTech staff using Philips monitors; RNs are not required to interpret rhythms
- RNs are not required to titrate drips
- 3-day unit-specific orientation with a preceptor provided
- Any color scrubs permitted; no artificial or gel nails, chipped polish, visible tattoos, or piercings beyond simple earrings
- COVID vaccination not required
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local pay rate
