- Fellowship vacancy - ASTS Abdominal Transplant Fellowship in Liver/Kidney/Pancreas/HPB

We are seeking interested candidates for a two-year ASTS fellowship position in Liver/Kidney/Pancreas/HPB, starting 7/1/2026. We are also considering candidates for a one-year position.
The Montefiore Einstein Center for Transplantation is an internationally renowned center for adult and pediatric organ transplantation, located in the Bronx, New York. The program has a rich history in the transplant community, having performed one of the world’s first pediatric kidney transplants, the first transplant of an HCV-positive liver into an HCV-naïve recipient, and the world’s first HOPE Act heart transplant. We are also a national leader in living donor transplantation. We are looking for innovative ways to grow the knowledge base and technical capacity of our program. We are recruiting a fellowship candidate who is a motivated individual to help us propel our clinical practice forward and to coordinate the utilization of advanced techniques in organ recovery for our center.
Position Highlights:
- Patient care: Support the clinical team with inpatient care and operative participation
- 24-month ASTS-certified fellowship curriculum: Comprehensive experience in operative and non-operative skills, as specified by the Transplant Accreditation Council
- Research Opportunities: Collaborate with our Research Associates on ongoing projects and work with our surgical and medical faculty to develop independent projects. Areas of interest include outcomes from transplantation with medically complex donor organs, optimizing cardiac risk assessment in septuagenarian organ transplant candidates, and process improvement projects.
- Leadership role in advanced organ recovery techniques: Facilitate the implementation of advanced organ recovery techniques and technology into our practice, participate in the growth of our normothermic preservation program.
- Salary commensurate with level of clinical training
Qualifications
- MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
- ECFMG certificate if medical school education was undertaken outside the US or Canada
- Successfully completed USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3
- Completed general surgery or urology residency
- Availability July 1, 2026 or soon thereafter
- US citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or possess the appropriate documentation to obtain a visa for entry into the US. Given time constraints, strongly prefer candidates who are US citizens or have residential status in the US, or already have a valid J-1 visa.
- Strong interest in clinical research and organ recovery
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
