UTMB was established in 1891 as the first academic health center in Texas and is a component of the University of Texas System. Today UTMB includes five schools (medicine, nursing, health professions, public and population health, and graduate biomedical sciences), a network of hospitals and clinics that provide a full range of primary and specialized medical care, and numerous research facilities.
UTMB is a large University based hospital with over 13,000 admits to the newborn nursery and over 600 admits to the NICU each year as well as referrals from across the Gulf Coast of Texas. UTMB is one of only three Level 1 trauma centers in the greater Houston area as well as one of only four ECMO centers in the greater Houston area. In the last few years, UTMB has expanded from 1 hospital in Galveston to 3 additional hospitals in Clear Lake, League City, and Angleton. All pediatric medical specialties and surgical specialties including urology, ENT, orthopedics, and neurosurgery are available.
The Division of Pediatric Surgery at UTMB is seeking a full-time pediatric surgeon to join the faculty. The successful applicant must be either board certified or eligible to sit for the boards. In addition to the clinical responsibilities, an interest in teaching surgery residents and pediatric surgery fellows is required. Research is encouraged with multiple funding opportunities and mentors available in the Department of Surgery. In 2020, the Division was approved by the ACGME to begin a Pediatric Surgery Fellowship training program in conjunction with Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi and will have its first fellow start in August of 2022.
Minimal Education and Experience:
- M.D. or D.O degree from an accredited medical institution.
- Fellowship Training in Pediatric Surgery.
- Current unrestricted license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
- Board certification or Board eligibility.
