The Department of Pediatric Surgery at Vanderbilt is seeking an Assistant Professor or above level faculty member board certified/board eligible in Pediatric General Surgery. Vanderbilt University Medical Center is one of the largest, most respected and fastest growing medical centers in the country. Our department is part of the largest free-standing children's hospital in the country, Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. As a comprehensive regional pediatric center (CRPC), Children’s Hospital is the only verified Level 1 pediatric trauma center within 150 miles and is one of 63 children’s hospitals in the country to have ACS Level 1 pediatric trauma center status and one of two pediatric trauma centers in the state.
The Department of Pediatric Surgery consists of 12 award-winning pediatric surgeons, two fellows, and a team of 8 experienced advanced practice providers including both Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
All of our faculty have special interest and training in pediatric general and thoracic surgery, including airway problems, newborn surgery, management of burns and injuries, and pediatric tumors. In addition, the new modalities of laparoscopy and thoracoscopy are also being utilized in children's surgery.
The Department of Pediatric Surgery promotes excellence in the comprehensive surgical care of children. Our unified group of pediatric surgeons is committed to the practice and teaching of excellence in clinical care. This includes both clinical outcomes and basic laboratory research and the education of pediatric surgery residents, general surgery and pediatric residents, medical students and nursing students.
Our department and hospital offer an excellent opportunity for the clinical and academic training of future pediatric surgeons. Our Surgical Residency Training Program covers general and specialized surgical services for children from infancy through adolescence for a wide array of congenital and acquired conditions. These may include common conditions such as appendicitis and hernias, or more rare and complex conditions such as tumors and multiple congenital diseases.
The training program includes participation in teaching conferences and leadership in multidisciplinary care. Rotations for the first-year resident include pediatric Urology and Neonatology, specifically the resuscitation and stabilization of the acutely ill newborn. The second year emphasizes professional development in administration and leadership of surgical house staff.
Requirements
Doctorate or Terminal degree is required. Successful candidates will be board certified/eligible in Surgery and Pediatric Surgery.
